Irena Eliášová (1953) was born in a Roma settlement in the village of Nová Dědina in the South-West Slovakia. She has been writing since her youth. She was awarded by the Obec Spisovatelů (Writers Association) in 2007 for her literary appeal Gypsies – Romas, and an extract from a prepared book was placed in the book of the winning texts of Roma and non-Roma authors entitled Devla, devla!. Currently Irena is preparing two novels with working titles Prostitutka Lili and Rub a Líc, and also a second part of her first book Naše osada, which was enthusiastically received by the public. She is also finishing a book of stories called Cikánský život .

Erika Olahová (1957) was born in Zvolen. She has worked since the age of 15, first in a factory and later as a cook and waitress. Now she receives disability pension and lives in Česká Třebová. Her brother Eduard Olah, is an artist, sculptor and also the creator of the Monument to Roma Victims of the Holocaust in Hodonín, Kunštát. Erika Olahová writes in Czech, however at the same time she is influenced by the Roma tradition of storytelling, which she heard from her grandparents as a girl. She has published short stories book Nechci se vrátit mezi mrtvé (ed. Jan Červenka, 2004) and Matné zrcadlo (2007). She has also published in Revolver Revue and Host magazine. Her work has also been included in the Anthology called Povídky (Short Stories by Czech Women, ed. Nancy Hawker, London, Telegram Books 2006), anthology of texts by Roma authors in the Czech Republic called Čalo voďi/ Sytá duše and a collection of stories by women authors entitled Ty, která píšeš (2008).
