Michal Ajvaz: Zlatý věk

Michal Ajvaz (1949) is a novelist, essay writer, poet and translator. His novel Prázdné ulice (Empty Streets) was awarded the Jaroslav Seifert Prize for literary achievement (2005) and the book was also nominated for the State Award for Literature. His novel Cesta na jih (Voyage to the South) was shortlisted for the Magnesia Litera Award. He has also written other novels Návrat starého varana (Return of the Old Komodo Dragon), Jiné město (the Other City), Tyrkysový orel (Turquoise Eagle), Tajemství knihy (Secret of a Book) and Lucemburské zahrady (Luxemburg’s Gardens), which was nominated for the Magnesia Litera Award for 2012. His book shows the life in a contemporary metropolis depicting thus precisely the Prague’s genius loci while interweaving it with supernatural phenomenon. His work is influenced by mystical novels from Prague by Gustav Meyrink and magical realism of Borges. Ajvaz uses elements of adventurous literature close to that of the urban fantasy genre. However, he has also written an essay dedicated to the French philosopher Derrida and a meditation about Borges.
Radka Denemarková: Peníze od Hitlera

Radka Denemarková is a writer, playwright, screenwriter, translator and essay writert. She debuted with her first novel A já pořád kdo to tluče (The Devil by the Nose) in 2005, followed by Peníze od Hitlera (Money from Hitler) (Magnesia Litera for the year’s best work of prose), a monograph novel Smrt, nebudeš se báti and Příběh Petra Lébla (You Will not be Afraid of Death: The Story of Petr Lébl) (Magnesia Litera). She has also written a monograph on Evald Schorm Sám sobě nepřítelem (An Enemy to Himself) and a screenplay Spací vady (Sleeping Deficiencies).
