The Grossmann Palace was built in 1904 according to the design of Joszef Schiller. It‘s first owner , Mrs Grossmann Josza, truly enjoyed the wooden brackets and vernacular ornaments on the façade created in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style. The building was damaged during the air raid of the Apollo refinery and has since undergone several reconstructions.

The rich history of the hotel goes as far as the times of Maria Theresa, when an inn called K trom zeleným stromom stood on the site of the current hotel. Following a great reconstruction carried on in the mid-1920s, it became the largest hotel in Central Europe. Over the times, it had fallen into disrepair until its new opening under the name Carlton Radisson SAS Hotel in 2001.

Minigallery – Toll House

Bratislava was an important industrial centre of Hungary towards the end of the 19th century, but it was lacking its connection with the right bank of the Danube river. In 1889, the Land Assembly decided to build the first permanent bridge over the Danube including two toll houses on both sides. He kept his art collection in his palace (the present-day Ministry of Environment) donating a large part of the collection to the city of Bratislava.

The former Terezian granary built on the order by Maria Theresa in 1773 was rebuilt into the Neo-Baroque style at the beginning of the of the last century. It was one of the first buildings in Bratislava with a reinforced concrete construction. It has been the seat of the Slovakian Philharmonic Orchestra since the 1950s.

The administrative building of the Slovakian National Gallery was built in the 1970s and has been awaiting a reconstruction for 11 years. There is a joiner’s shop, which prepares stands for artworks, makes picture frames and carries out other necessary works for the gallery.

Zahorian Gallery

The Gallery is part of a hotel, built in 1903 in the Art Nouveau style on the former Barošova street. It experienced the worst period towards the end of the World War II when the building was badly damaged during the liberation fights in the streets of Bratislava. It was renowned for the legendary Tulipan Espresso Bar, the meeting point of the Bratislava intellectual society in the second half of the 20th century.
