The Public Library in Vienna offers pleasant and stylish environment aimed at primarily hosting literature and film related events in the near proximity of the underground line and not very far from the very centre of Vienna. The building itself is an architectonical attraction and is worth a visit on its own merit. Its construction was finished in 2003 following the design of architect Ernst Mayer.

Andrzej Bart: Fliegenfängerfabrik

Andrzej Bart, born in 1951, is a film scriptwriter and director and one of the most important Polish contemporary writers. He was awarded the prestigious Koœcielski Prize for his first piece of work. The film adaptation of his novel Rewers was nominated for an Oscar by Poland in 2009. Fliegenfängerfabrik, which was nominated for the NIKE award, will be filmed as well. Mr. B. sharply answers with a very sound “no” to an innocent query if he had any children. He continues to unwaveringly reject that he would have conceived a child during the marriage. In his monologue he than gives reasons why he has not started a new life after his return from Osvetim. He keeps murmuring kaddish, a Jewish funeral prayer, for a child that had never existed and tells a story of the difficulties of those who survived.

Jiĝí Langer: Die neun Tore. Geheimnisse der Chassidim

Barely anybody knows Hasidic Jews better than Jiĝí Langer. He used to at the very heart of their society and is therefore best equipped to bring to the light some intriguing pieces of information about this fascinating world based on his personal experience. The work Die Neun Tore, published in 1937 for the first time, is an authentic documentary of the Jewish intellectual history. It tells a story of the Hasidic Jews from Eastern Europe and their interpretation of the holy script, teaching and humor, which all together epitomize the bridge between the East and the West.
