London

LITERATURE NIGHT 2011 - 11. May 2011 at 6:30 pm

The British Library is once again the London host – home of ELN since its launch in 2009. For one special night for the past two years authors from across the continent have come together at the British Library and read their work to packed audiences.  This year six new authors - from Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Austria and Flanders – meet on stage in London to delight and stimulate with their readings and conversation.  On the same night as London 17 other capitals are holding ELN events, creating a pan-European festival of fiction and poetry.

A good read and a good translation – those were the main criteria of the expert panel who selected the six writers from entries from the EUNIC* countries.  The final selection of superlative writers - both emerging and established literary figures in their home countries - represents the modern face of European literature. Featured books and selected European literature will be available from a dedicated Foyles bookstall
at the Conference Centre. A book signing will follow the event.

Chaired once more by Rosie Goldsmith, the BBC presenter and champion of European literature, this special event promises to provide an exciting insight into European literature in translation.
