Meeting of Arnošt Lustig and translators Kepa Uhart and Patricia Gonzalez de Jesus

On the ocasion of the Wednesday with European literature: meeting of translators, writers and the public, the Czech Centre Madrid has organised a meeting of Arnošt Lustig and translators of Czech literature Kepa Uhart (Ivan Klima, Jan Neruda, Arnost Lustig, Patrik Ouředník, Miloš Urban, Jáchym Topol and Emil Hakl) and Patricia Gonzalez de Jesus (Čapek, Kratochvíl) on the 5th of May.

The author and both translators of Czech literature into Spanish are different from each other by one generation, experience, geography as well as nationality whose historical development has been entirely different. Where from the interest of young translators of this “small language” is derived ?How come they are interested in works written by authors from a country whose fate they only know from a second hand. To what extent are they able to understand the message of the work and mediate it into the target language, Spanish? What kind of interpretation they have to deal with during they work and how they make enquieries during their search?  And what kind of answers can be provided by the writer whose rich literary production is affected by historical events in Europe from the fifties of the 20th century?

Already a fifth meeting of this cycle took place at the the Representation of the European Commission in Spain.
