Translation: (due to be published in the UK by Portobello Books in 2011)

Julya Rabinowich (b. 1970) is a painter, interpreter and writer originally born in St Petersburg, now living in Vienna. Her debut novel Spaltkopf (due to be published in the UK by Portobello Books in 2011) is a poetic evocation of exile seen through the eyes of a child. It deals with the uprooting of a Jewish family and their relocation as well as clash of identities.

The British Library is, as national libraries go, relatively young. Its roots lie in the report of the National Libraries Committee issued in 1969. This was followed by a White Paper recommending the setting up of a national library for the UK ('the British Library'). In 1972 The British Library Act was passed by Parliament, bringing the Library into operation with effect from 1 July 1973.
