Today’s appearance of the palace is a result of a reconstruction connected with the attachment of the cornewing, so called Zsigray house. The vice-regent used to reside in this building. After relocation of this institution to Budín it had been used by soldiers and the municipal guard. Later the financial directory has moved in. Today it serves as a purpose-built establishment for Government Office of the Slovak Republic. Vietnamese personnel in a Japanese sushi restaurant will, together with us, plunge into the text of a pseudo- Vietnamese author.
Translation: (dílo bude čteno v českém originále/ writing will be presented in its original version)
A story set in Písek is narrated by a young Vietnamese girl. Apart from descriptions of a daily life of the Vietnamese community, it depicts and criticises a series of social motives. We read about racism and its connection to local elites but also about traditions, common practices and desires of individual members of the Vietnamese community. The language of the novel is authentic written Vietnamese. It is talkative and articulate. The novel won the Book Society prize.. Authorship by Lan Pham Thi was a mystification of the real author Jan Cempírek who is a writer born in České Budějovice.
