Petra Soukupova – Zmizet (To Disappear)

Translation: Mirko Kraetsch

The collection of three short tales by Petra Soukupová is an unforgiving insight into contemporary family relations which could be described by words from one of the tales “We live in a certain way. It’s not always bad but seldom good.” Through a child narrator in the tale Zmizet (Vanished) Petra Soukupová lets us look into a complicated heart of a contemporary family whose entire life has been changed by a car accident.

Tomas Zmeskal – Zivotopis cernobileho jehnete ( Biography of a black and white lamb)

Translation: Christina Frankenberg

They differ from their surroundings not only because they are growing up without parents with their grandmother and handicapped uncle but mainly because they have a different color of skin - their father coming from Africa. This otherness in the world of the then openlyracist society brings them into troubles which they can best face together.
